We genuinely don’t think there’s another budgeting tool out there like FreeBudget. A tool that’s completely free, with no ads, no selling of your data to third parties, and no surprise fees — that’s unheard of.

We’re not claiming to be the fanciest tool out there, but we’re no slouch either… and come on, we’re free. That’s kind of amazing.

Yes — FreeBudget is 100% free to use. There are no ads, no upsells, and no selling of your data to third parties.

The only cost you might encounter is a small fee for securely linking your bank accounts using Plaid. We wish we could cover it ourselves, but it’s a direct charge from the provider — and we don’t upcharge or profit from it at all. It's unfortunate and wasn't our original vision but it simply felt like an essential feature to offer. That said, linking your bank account is totally optional — manual entry and CSV imports are completely free along with everything else.

Yes — linking your bank account through FreeBudget is handled by Plaid, a trusted service used by major apps like Venmo, Robinhood, and Chime.

When you connect your bank, FreeBudget never sees or stores your login credentials — Plaid handles the connection directly through their bank-grade security protocols. All data is encrypted and securely transmitted. Your credentials never touch our servers, and your data stays private.

If you'd prefer not to link an account, you can always import transactions via CSV or add them manually — no pressure.

You can securely link your bank account through Plaid, a trusted service also used by apps like Venmo, Robinhood, & Chime. Just go to the “Accounts” tab , select the "+" button to add an account, and follow the prompts to sync your transactions in real time.

That said, we operate on a limited budget, and as costs rise, we can’t promise we’ll always be able to cover everything ourselves.

But here’s what we can promise: FreeBudget’s core tools will always be free to use — no subscription required. If we ever add paid features, they’ll be completely optional.

Yes! FreeBudget is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — so you can access it from any device and even install it on your phone like a native app.

Just note: FreeBudget won’t appear in the iOS or Android app stores. Instead, you can quickly install it right from your browser:

Absolutely. You can add unlimited categories, edit the defaults, and tag transactions however you’d like. FreeBudget adapts to your way of tracking.

Yes! You can add as many bank or credit cards accounts as you’d like — there’s no limit. Whether you’re tracking a single card or managing multiple accounts across banks, FreeBudget gives you the flexibility to handle it all in one place — at no extra cost.
