Why is FreeBudget free?
We believe everyone deserves access to great financial tools, not just people who can afford it.
Budgeting is supposed to help you save money. So it never sat right with us that most budgeting apps require you to spend more of it.
FreeBudget started as a personal project. Our founder wanted a clean, modern budgeting tool without ads, upsells, or hidden tradeoffs. What began as a side project turned into something bigger, a tool built to make financial clarity accessible to everyone.
We don't have investors pushing us to maximize revenue.
We don't run ads.
We don't sell user data to third parties.

We genuinely don't think there's another budgeting tool out there like FreeBudget. Completely free to use, with no ads, no selling of your data to third parties, and no upselling - that's unheard of. We're not claiming to be the fanciest tool out there, but we're no slouch either... and come on, we're free. That's kind of amazing.
Yes! FreeBudget's core budgeting, tracking, reporting, and export features are free to use - no ads, no subscription required. The only cost is a small per-account fee if you choose to link your bank accounts, to help cover our costs. Manual accounts and CSV imports are always free.
Absolutely. Bank linking is handled by Plaid, a trusted service used by Venmo, Robinhood, and Chime. FreeBudget never sees or stores your login credentials. Plaid handles the connection directly with bank-grade security. All data is encrypted and your credentials never touch our servers. If you'd prefer not to link, you can always import via CSV or add transactions manually.
Nope! You can manually enter transactions, import them from a CSV file, or use bank syncing. It's completely up to you.
