How many people can share a budget?
Up to five, including the Budget Manager. That is plenty of room for a couple, a family, or a small household where more than one person helps manage the money.
What is the difference between Edit and View access?
Edit members can do everything with the budget: add and change transactions, adjust budgets and categories, and manage accounts. View members can see all the same data and respond to transaction reviews, but cannot make edits. View access is great for a parent keeping tabs on an adult child, or an accountability partner who just wants visibility.
What are transaction reviews?
A review is a way to ask another member to double-check a specific transaction. You flag it, add a quick note, and send it their way. Nothing changes until they respond, because a review is a question, not an edit. They can confirm it as-is or fix the description and category. It is a simple way to sort out "what was this charge?" without stepping on each other.
What happens to my own data if I join someone else’s budget?
A shared budget is one shared set of data that everyone works from, rather than a merge of separate budgets. If you join someone else’s budget and already have your own, FreeBudget will warn you first, because joining means you start working from their budget instead of yours.
Can I stop sharing later?
Yes. The Budget Manager can change anyone’s access or remove a member at any time, and members can leave whenever they want. The manager role can also be handed off to someone else, so you are never stuck. You are always in control of who can see your budget.
